SIOUX CITY WINS EIGHTH STRAIGHT OVER AIRHOGS

Sioux City, IA - The X’s fired on all cylinders tonight beating the Texas Airhogs 12-3 from Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park for their eighth straight victory.

The Texas Airhogs actually took an early 1-0 over Sioux City when Stewart Ijames took James Dykstra deep for his first homer of the year.

But the Explorers answered back when Luis Durango lead off the bottom of the first with a walk and Michael Lang reached on a base hit. After the next two batters were retired Jose Sermo drove both of them in with a big two out double to put the X’s on top 2-1 after one inning.

In the bottom of the second Sioux City would strike again. Daniel Jackson was hit by a pitch and Luis Durango walked again. Jay Austin then drove home Jackson with a base hit to centerfield and Nate Samson put a double down the left field line to score Durango and Austin and make it 5-1 X’s.

James Dykstra would allow two runs to score in the third inning to make it 5-3 but that’s the last run he or any other Sioux City pitcher would allow.

Dykstra (4-0) picked up the win by throwing a quality start going 6.0 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, striking out 4 and walking 2.

Sioux City would break the game open in the 6th with a 5 run rally. Michael Lang started it all with a base hit. Jay Austin doubled when Airhogs left fielder Dillon Thomas lost the ball in the lights and then Nate Samson picked up his third RBI of the game with a base hit to drive in Lang. Dexture McCall would walk, Jay Baum was hit by a pitch, Dylan Kelly would drive home Nate Samson with a sacrifice fly and Daniel Jackson would walk. The bases were loaded with 2 outs for Luis Durango who singled to right field to drive home two and make it 10-3 Explorers.

The X’s would score twice again in the eighth when Durango drove him his third RBI of the game and Lang picked up his fourth hit of the night and picked up an RBI as well making it 12-3 X’s.

Geoff Broussard pitched a 1-2-3 seventh for Sioux City and came out for the eighth but left with a finger injury. Ryan Horstman then came on and retired all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth and struck out four of them.

Sioux City has now won 8 straight games and has a 17-4 record. They will play game 2 of the series on Saturday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 with the pitching matchup Miguel Rosario against Taylor Jordan.
