Sioux City-----Kansas City scored six runs in the third inning and went on to defeat the Explorers here Wednesday 9-3. The T-Bones sent 11 batters to the plate in the third and hit three home runs as they evened the series at a game apiece. All eight runs scored in the first two innings came off losing pitcher Aaron Correa (2-2). The Explorers also hit two home runs in the contest, but both were solo shots. Wally Backman, Jr. hit his second home run of the year in the fifth inning while Peter Barrows chipped in with his eighth of the season in the ninth inning. Backman had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 19 games, the longest hitting streak of the season for the Explorers. Ray Serrano had a hit with his hitting streak now reaching 17 games and Mike Murphy stretched his hitting streak to nine games with two hits. The win for Kansas City snapped their losing streak at five games while the Explorers lost at home for the first time in the last seven games. The final game of the three-game series will be played Thursday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time set for 7:05.
