Sioux City, IA – Sioux City Explorers General Manager, Shane Tritz, has been named the 2013 American Association Executive of the Year, the league office announced today. The award was decided by a vote of all thirteen teams’ field managers and media representatives and this is the first time in team history that a member of the Sioux City Explorers organization has received the award.
“We are thrilled to have Shane be the recipient of this great honor,” said Explorers owner, John Roost. “It is a testament to his dedication and commitment to the entire organization”
Tritz, 37, completed his 15th year in professional baseball in 2013. He returned to the Sioux City Explorers to serve as the team's General Manager in 2006 after spending the previous three seasons (two as General Manager) in South Texas with the Coastal Bend Aviators of the Central Baseball League. Shane began his career with the Explorers as an intern in the X’s ticket office in 1999 and also worked two additional seasons in the Explorers front office (2001 and 2002) after one season with the Omaha Golden Spikes, AAA affiliate of the Kansas City Royals (2000).
“Everyone in the organization is proud of this recognition for Shane,” said team President Matt Adamski. “With this award based on votes from other teams, it shows you how much Shane is respected throughout the league”
The Explorers General Manager is a 1995 graduate of Sioux City West High School and attended the University of Iowa where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management in 1999. Shane and his wife, Holly, reside in the Siouxland area along with daughters Morgan (11) and Peyton (7).
“This is truly an honor to receive this prestigious award,” stated Tritz. I have always believed that a person can only be as good as one’s supportive cast and I have the best front office staff and owner in John Roost that anyone could ever ask for.”
The Sioux City Explorers were a founding member of the Northern League in 1993 and the 2013 season marked their 21st season in Sioux City and 8th season as a member of the American Association of Professional Baseball.
