GARY, IN- The Sioux City Explorers head into the All-Star break on a high note, getting the series sweep over the Railcats on Sunday afternoon.
In the third inning, Sioux City plated the first run. Joe Bennie led-off the inning with a double, advanced to first on a 4-3 groundout, and scored off a sac-fly-RBI by Tyler Ogle.
Gary SouthShore tied the game an inning later. In the fourth inning, Reggie Wilson reached base-on-balls, and later scored from third on a wild-pitch to tie the game at 1-1.
The Explorers added a couple insurance runs in the seventh and eighth inning. In the seventh, Tony Campana singled and later scored on a groundout. In the eighth inning, LeVon Washington doubled and scored off an RBI single by Jonathan Gonzalez to extend the lead (3-1).
FINAL SCORE: EXPLORERS 3, RAILCATS 1.
Explorers’ starter Kramer Sneed received the victory, allowing one run in six innings and four strikeouts. X’s left-hander Hobbs Johnson got the save, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings.
Railcats starter Alex Gunn finished with a no decision, giving up one run in 5.1 innings.
Gary SouthShore’s reliever Jesse Pratt was charged with the loss, allowing one run in an inning pitched.
