SIOUX CITY, IA – The Sioux City Explorers have finalized their 2013 opening day roster and will begin the 2013 season at Lewis & Clark Park this Thursday, May 16th versus the Sioux Falls Canaries with the first pitch set for 7:05 PM.
The X’s will start the season with 23 players (11 pitchers, 2 catchers, 5 infielders, and 5 outfielders) and after the first 10 days of the regular season, the roster must be trimmed down to 22 players per American Association league rules.
With 26 players in spring training, the X’s have traded RHP Ryan Zimmerman to the Alexandria Aces of the Independent United League, provided INF Travis Weaver his release and placed LHP Richard Salazar on the In-active list to get down to their 23 man opening day active roster.
After today’s practice, the X’s will have their final pre-season practice tomorrow night under the lights at Lewis & Clark Park before welcoming the Canaries to Lewis & Clark Park on Thursday night for the 2013 home opener. It is magnet schedule giveaway thanks to Wells Fargo Bank, along with a post game FIREWORKS show to cap off the evening. After the home opener, the X’s will travel to Sioux Falls for the final 3 games of the opening 4 game series with the Canaries before returning home on Monday, May 20th for a three game series versus the New Jersey Jackals of the Independent Can-Am League.
