X's ink former Yankees AAA 1B/DH

SIOUX CITY, IA – The Sioux City Explorers announced today the signing of former New York Yankees Triple-A farmhand, Luke Murton. He will be in uniform tonight for Sioux City, when they open a three-game home stand versus the Grand Prairie Airhogs.

 

Drafted by the Yankees in the 19th Round of the 2009 MLB Draft, Murton has spent the last five seasons in the Yankees system, including this year with their Triple-A franchise. Last year with the double-A Trenton Thunder, the 27-year-old hit .249 with 116 hits, 21 doubles, two triples and 25 home runs, in 466 at-bats.

 

In 2010, Murton was named a South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star with the Charleston Riverdogs, the A affiliate of the Yankees. That year, the McDonough, Georgia native, hit .282 in 397 at bats with 112 hits, 32 doubles, two triples and 12 home runs.

 

Over his career, Murton has hit .268 in 1,603 at-bats with 100 doubles, six triples and 53 home runs, while driving in 226 runs.
