Sioux City-----Wichita won their 11th straight game as they blanked the Explorers Monday 2-0 at Lewis and Clark Park. The loss was the seventh straight by Sioux City and for the third time in the last six games the Explorers were shutout.
The Explorers only two times to score came in the first and second innings, but in both innings left a runner at third base when the final out was made.
The contest remained scoreless until the sixth inning when Wichita’s C.J. Ziegler singled to score Jake Kahaulelio from second base which gave the Wingnuts a 1-0 lead. It stayed 1-0 until the ninth inning when Wichita added an insurance run to make the final score 2-0.
It was the 11th straight win for Wichita which tied their franchise record for consecutive year in which they set last season.
The Explorers had only four hits with Anthony Kaskadden getting two of those hits.
Richard Salazar pitched seven innings and took the loss while Chris Smith pitched eight innings to record the win with Josh Dew pitching the ninth to notch his 13th save of the season. The two Wichita pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts after four Wingnut pitchers recorded 14 strikeouts on Sunday.
