DURHAM, NC – The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux City Explorers LHP Richard Salazar (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week.
Salazar improved his staff-best win-total to seven with a stellar performance on Sunday. The left-hander pitched seven one-hit innings to beat Lincoln. The only hit he allowed was a solo home run in the first inning. After that, Salazar set down 19 of the next 22 men he faced. He struck out six batters and the only baserunners he allowed were on three walks and a hit batsman.
Prior to Sunday’s gem, Salazar tossed seven strong innings in a win over Gary SouthShore. Sioux City’s ace southpaw improved his record to 7-3 with the victories. He has won each of his last three decisions and has pitched at least seven innings in all of his last seven starts.
