SIOUX CITY, IA - Today the X’s announced the addition of two more pitchers as RHP Rob Wort and RHP Patrick Johnson have inked 2014 contracts.
Wort, 25, has pitched the last 5 seasons in the Washington National organization. In 2013, Wort spent the majority of the season with the Potomac Nationals of the Carolina League (High-A). He was 1-0 with a 3.71 ERA and recorded 6 saves in 31 relief appearances. Wort allowed 16 runs (14 earned) on 25 hit and struck out 48 batters and walked 29 in 34.0 innings. Wort appeared in 4 games at the end of the season with the Harrisburg Senators of the Eastern League (AA).
Wort was selected by the Nationals in the 30th round of the 2009 draft out of Jefferson College (MO). In five professional seasons, the St. Charles, MO native is 15-10 with a 3.20 ERA and 31 saves in 168 games. In 205.1 career innings pitched, Wort has struck out 262 batters.
Johnson, 25, joins the Explorers after pitching the last three seasons in the Colorado Rockies organization. In his three seasons in the Rockies organization, he accumulated a 4.31 ERA in 73 games (9 starts). Patrick has pitched 119.0 innings while recording 130 strikeouts to just 61 walks. Johnson was a 25th round selection of the Rockies in the 2011 draft out of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The X’s now have 22 players signed for the 2014 season, including 14 pitchers and 8 position players.
