SIOUX CITY, IA – The Sioux City Explorers announced today that they have re-signed RHP Jimmer Kennedy and LHP Kenny Long to 2015 contracts and the pair will once again play key roles in the back end of the X’s bullpen under X’s second year field manager, Steve Montgomery. The upcoming season will mark Kennedy’s 3rd season with the X’s, while Long will be back for his second season of work with the X’s in 2015.
Kennedy turned in another sensational season for the X’s in 2014 by appearing in 48 games out of the bullpen and compiling a 2.90 ERA in 71.1 innings of work. Kennedy recorded one save and struck out 52 batters, while only yielding 30 walks. In his two seasons as a member of the X’s, the 27-year old Levittown, PA native has appeared in 91 games and has thrown 133.2 innings, while collecting 102 strikeouts and only allowing 51 free passes, sporting a solid 2.89 ERA in 2013 to go along with his 2.90 ERA this past season.
In his first season of Independent baseball and first season with the X’s in 2014, Long collected 24 strikeouts in 40.2 innings of work, while serving as the X’s left-handed specialist out of the bullpen. On the season, Long compiled a 2-0 record to go along with a 3.76 ERA. Long is a native of Fox River Grove, Illinois and was drafted in the 22nd round of the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft by the Houston Astros out of Illinois State University.
