SIOUX CITY, IA - The American Association of Professional Baseball announced the 2015 end of season awards. Sioux City Explorers right-hander Patrick Johnson was selected as the 2015 American Association Pitcher of the Year.
The Conover, NC native is in his second year with the Explorers after spending three seasons in the Colorado Rockies organization from 2011-2013. Johnson has started in twenty games this season, compiling a record of 15-1, 2.08 earned run average and has recorded 132 strikeouts. The right-hander is currently in the American Association top five for these major statistical categories; games started, innings pitched, strikeouts, wins and earned run average.
Johnson is the second Sioux City pitcher to win an American Association Pitcher of the Year award, after Nick Singleton was named the league’s top righthanded pitcher in 2008 (prior to 2011, the league gave separate awards for righthanded and lefthanded pitchers).
The Sioux City Explorers have clinched the 2015 American Association Central Division Championship and will host the first two games of playoffs (September 9-10th) at Lewis and Clark Park.
