RENE TOSONI DOUBLES TWICE AND KNOCKS IN FOUR TO GET 8-4 VICTORY OVER LAREDO

The Sioux City Explorers improved to seventy-five wins on the season, getting the 6-4 victory over the Lemurs at Uni-Trade Stadium. X’s first baseman Rene Tosoni went 3 for 4 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored in the contest. 

 

Sioux City jumped to a quick 4-0 lead after an inning, scoring four runs on five hits and a walk. Rene Tosoni had a two run double, and Brock Kjeldgaard and Tommy Mendonca both had RBI singles in the inning. 

 

Laredo knocked in their first run in the second inning. Lemurs third baseman Juan Silverio lined a base-hit to right, scoring a runner from third to cut the lead to three runs in the game. 

 

In the fourth inning, both teams plated a run. Rene Tosoni singled to left field to score a run, and Lemurs first baseman Travis Denker crossed home off plate on a Juan Silverio sacrifice to make it 5-2. 

 

Lemurs made strides in the bottom of the fifth on a Kevin Taylor two-run home run, cutting the lead to one run at 5-4 after five innings in Laredo. 

 

Sioux City went on two score runs in the sixth and ninth innings, extending the lead to 8-4, which went on to be the final score of the game. Explorers starter Eric Wordekemper (8-2) received the win, allowing four runs in five innings with six strikeouts. Lemurs starting pitcher Leondy Perez (4-1) was charged with the loss, giving up four earned runs in the first inning. 

 

Sioux City had three batters finish with double-digit hits. X’s lead-off man Matty Johnson had himself a three hit night alongside a double, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Explorer first baseman Rene Tosoni went 3 for 4 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored. X’s right-fielder Michael Lang finished the night with two hits, two runs and a stolen base.
