The Sioux City Explorers fell to the Laredo Lemurs 2-1 in the final regular season game for the X’s. Sioux City finished the season with an American Association record with 75 wins and 25 losses, a .750 winning percentage.
Explorers plated their one and only run of the game in the third inning. X’s left fielder singled to left, stole second and third base, and scored off a line drive right up the middle by Matty Johnson to take the 1-0 lead.
Laredo answered in the fifth inning plating two runs to take the lead. Lemurs second baseman Ty Forney ripped a base-hit to right, scoring a runner from third. On the next at-bat Lemurs pitcher Leondy Perez hit an RBI single to centerfield to plate the winning run of the game.
Sioux City’s starter Brandon Stennis (1-1) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) in seven innings pitched. Lemurs staring pitcher Leondy Perez (4-1) received the win with only one run allowed in five innings. Laredo’s reliever Roger Bernal (s-1) got the save, pitching a scoreless ninth inning to seal the 2-1 victory.
The X’s have also clinched the 2015 American Association Central Division Championship and will host the first two games of playoffs (September 9-10th) at Lewis and Clark Park.
