Laredo, TX- The Sioux City Explorers fall to Laredo 5-2, evening the series at 1-1 a piece, heading into game three at Lewis and Clark Park on Saturday.
Laredo got on the board first, plating five earned runs on five singles (three being infield singles) in the second inning to take a commanding 5-0 lead after two innings.
Sioux City managed to cut the lead three runs, scoring two in the top of the fourth. X’s shortstop Noah Perio knocked in runners from second and third off a two-run single hit to right field.
In the top of the ninth, Lemurs right-hander John Brebbia (s-3) synched the victory for Laredo, pitching a scoreless ninth and tying the American Association Championship Series 1-1.
Explorers starter Ryan Zimmerman (1-1) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs, eight hits and two walks in 3.2 innings pitched. Laredo’s left-hander Henry Garcia (2-0) received the win going six innings with only two runs allowed.
Sioux City had two batters finish the night with double-digit hits. X’s right-fielder Michael Lang went 2 for 4 with a run scored, and left-fielder Brent Keys had a two hit night as well.
The Sioux City Explorers will head home to Lewis and Clark Park to play game three of the finals on Saturday, first pitch-7:05.
