Sioux City, IA- Laredo and Sioux City both had dominating pitching performances from their bullpen, but the Explorers would fall to the Lemurs 6-4 in game three of the finals.
Sioux City jumped to an early 4-0 lead after two innings, plating a run in the first and three in the third. X’s shortstop Noah Perio knocked in the first run with an RBI single, Matt Koch scored from third off an error, and Brock Kjeldgaard scored a run with a base-hit to right.
Laredo answered in the fourth innings, matching the Explorers four and adding two of their own to make it 6-4. Abel Nieves and Travis Denker both doubled to score a run, Lemurs centerfielder Drew Martinez knocked in three with a double and later scored off a wild-pitch.
The Explorers bullpen kept the X’s in the game through the night, not allowing a hit or run to score in 5.2 innings of play.
The Lemurs bullpen was just as sharp allowing no runs, nine strikeouts and only four hits in eight innings pitched in relief.
Laredo’s starter Matt Loosen (0-1) got the no decision, allowing four runs (two earned) in an inning pitched. Right-hander Ryan Beckman (2-0) received the win with an outstanding performance in relief, pitching seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and three hits. Lemur’s closer John Brebbia (s-4) got the save on the night.
Sioux City’s starting pitcher John Straka (0-2) was charged with the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) in 3.1 innings.
