Sioux City, IA- The Laredo Lemurs are the 2015 American Association champions after getting the 12-5 victory over American Association’s best Sioux City Explorers, to take the series 3-1.
Both teams scored a run in the first inning. In the second, Laredo plated two runs and the Explorers scored one to make it 3-2 after two innings.
The Lemurs went on to score runs in the third, fifth, sixth and ninth innings to even twelve runs total. Lemur's third baseman, Juan Silverio, had a three-run home run in the fifth inning.
Explorers went on to plate runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings, giving them five runs total off twelve hits and an error. Michael Lang singled to score a run in the fourth, Brock Kjeldgaard smashed a solo-shot in the fifth, and Ryan Court knocked in a run with a base hit.
X’s starting pitcher, Eric Wordekemper, was charged with the loss allowing five runs in 4.1 innings. Lemurs right-hander, Luis De La Cruz (1-1), received the win pitching 1.2 innings in relief with an earned run given. Laredo’s closer, John Brebbia (s-5), got the save by pitching the final 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.
Sioux City had three batters with double digit hits. X’s designated hitter, Brock Kjeldgaard, went 2 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Tom Mendonca had two hits, a double and a run scored, and Explorers left-fielder Brent Keys finished with three hits, an RBI and a run scored.
