EXPLORERS END HOME STAND WITH A LOSS
Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers end the home stand with a loss, falling to Fargo-Moorhead with a 15-8 score, at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
The Explorers and RedHawks both recorded two runs in the first inning. Brian Humphries knocked in two, with an RBI single in the top half. Tommy Mendonca chalked up two runs with an RBI single of his own, tying the game at 2-2 after an inning of play.
Fargo-Moorhead added two runs in the second, and Sioux City put up two runs in the third inning to once again, tie the game at 4-4. With the X’s down 4-2, Explorers second baseman Jarek Cunningham homered with a runner on to tie the game.
The RedHawks went on to score eleven more runs in the contest, plating five in the fourth, two in the sixth, and four runs in the seventh inning.
Sioux City cut the lead a couple runs in the eighth. X’s recorded four runs on four hits and an error, but would not be able to overcome the 15-8 deficit.
RedHawks right-hander Cody Scarpetta (2-0) received the victory, going six innings, with four runs allowed on five hits and seven walks, while recording ten strikeouts.
X’s left-hander James Walsh (0-2) was charged with the loss, giving up nine runs in three innings pitched.
