Fargo, ND- The Sioux City Explorers ended their series in Fargo with a loss, falling to the RedHawks with a 7-1 score on Sunday afternoon.
Sioux City recorded the first run of the contest in the first inning. X’s shortstop Nate Samson doubled to score a run to give the X’s the early 1-0 lead.
The RedHawks answered with a couple runs of their own in the bottom half. Josh Mazzola knocked in a run with an RBI double, and later scored on a single by K.D. Kang to take the 2-1 lead.
Fargo-Moorhead added another run in the fourth inning. Josh Mazzola led-off with a walk, and scored on a base hit and an error by the pitcher.
In the sixth inning, Fargo-Moorhead tacked on two more. RedHawks catcher Luke Bailey smashed a two-run homer, extending their lead to 5-1 after six innings of play.
The RedHawks went on to score another two runs in the eighth inning. Mike Gimartin homered with a runner on, giving them the final score of 7-1.
Fargo-Moorhead’s starter Matt Snyder (1-2) received the victory, pitching 5.1 solid innings with only one run allowed.
Explorers left-hander Cody Forsythe (5-4) was charged with the loss for Sioux City, allowing four runs (three earned) in 5.2 innings pitched.
