ZIMMERMAN’S SOLID OUTING HELPS X’S EARN VICTORY OVER SIOUX FALLS

Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux City Explorers took home game one of their series in Sioux Falls, getting the 5-1 victory over the Canaries at The Birdcage.

Sioux City jumped to an early 2-0 lead, scoring a run in the second fourth innings. Ralph Henriquez knocked in both runs with an RBI single in the second, and an RBI groundout in the fourth inning.

The Canaries recorded their first run in the fifth inning. With runners at second and third, Ethan Chapman hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring the tagging runner at third base.

The Explorers tacked on two more in the eighth inning. X’s left fielder LeVon Washington plated two runs with an RBI double, extending their lead to 4-1.

Sioux City went on to score one more run in the ninth inning. Derrick Robinson knocked in the final run of the contest with an RBI double, giving them the 5-1 lead which would be the final score of the game.

Explorers right-hander Ryan Zimmerman (3-8) received the victory, going 6.2 solid innings with only one run allowed, on three hits and two walks.

Canaries starter Dylan Thompson (1-1) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs in six innings pitched.
