Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux City Explorers wrap-up their series in Sioux Falls, falling to the Canaries with a 6-4 score in nine innings at The Birdcage.
Sioux City recorded the first run of the contest, plating a run in the fourth inning. Tim Colwell knocked in a run with an RBI single, scoring the runner at third base.
Canaries matched the X’s run with one of their own in the bottom half of the fourth. J.C. Linares singled to score a run to tie the game at 1-1 after four innings of play.
Explorers racked up three runs in the sixth inning. Nate Samson and LeVon Washington each scored on a sacrifice-fly and an error by the shortstop. X’s third baseman Tommy Mendonca ripped an RBI double to give them the 4-1 lead.
In the bottom half of the sixth, Sioux Falls answered with four big runs of their own. Three RBI singles by J.C. Linares, Rubi Silva and Cameron Monger helped take the 5-4 lead over Sioux City after six innings of play.
Sioux Falls managed to score one more run in the contest, giving them the 6-4 final score.
Canaries left-hander Kris Regas (4-5) finished the night with a no decision, allowing four runs (two earned) in 5.2 innings pitched. Shawn Blackwell (6-6) received the victory, pitching a scoreless inning. Sioux Falls closer Billy Waltrip (s-2) got the save, closing it out in the ninth inning.
Explorers starter Ryan Zimmerman (3-8) finished with a no decision, allowing two runs in five innings. X’s reliever PJ Francescon (0-4) was credited with the loss, giving up three runs in only one inning pitched.
