CONNOR OVERTON HEADING TO SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS ORGANIZATION

RHP Becomes 3rd X’s Player To Join MLB Team Since Start Of 2016 Season.

 

SIOUX CITY, IA – The Sioux City Explorers announced today that the San Francisco Giants have purchased the contract of Explorers RHP Connor Overton. Overton becomes the 3rd member of the X’s to join an MLB organization since the start of the 2016 season (Noah Perio – LA Dodgers, Tayler Scott – Milwaukee Brewers). Overton will report to the San Jose Giants (Class-A Adv) of the California League.

Overton was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 15th round of the 2014 June Amateur Draft from Old Dominion University. He would spend a year and a half in the Marlins organization playing for their affiliates in Batavia, NY and Greensboro, NC. Overton would finish the 2015 season pitching in the Washington Nationals organization making 13 appearances after signing mid-season, finishing the year pitching for the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs, picking up a win out of the bullpen.  

In thirty games with the Explorers this season, Overton has a 5-1 record with a 1.96 earned run average and 11 saves, while recording 45 strikeouts in 36.2 innings pitched. For his efforts, Overton was selected to play in the 2016 American Association All-Star Game at CHS Field in St. Paul, MN on August 2nd.
