Lincoln, NE- The Sioux City Explorers end the series in Lincoln with a victory, getting the 4-3 win over the Saltdogs on Sunday afternoon at Haymarket Park.
Sioux City recorded the first run of the contest in the first inning. Derrick Robinson led-off with a single, moved to second and third on a Michael Lang base-hit, and scored off a sacrifice-fly by Nate Samson to take the early 1-0 lead.
Explorers tacked on another in the fourth. Tim Colwell led-off with a single, moved to second on a base-on-balls, advanced to third and scored on an Ino Patron single.
Lincoln took the lead with one swing of the bat in the fifth. With runners at first, second and one out, Satdogs catcher Ryan Wiggins smashed a three-run homer, giving them the 3-2 lead after five innings.
In the eighth inning, Sioux City came in clutch. With the bases-loaded and only one out, X’s first baseman Ino Patron ripped an RBI double, scoring the runners at second and third, and giving Sioux City the late inning lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, X’s right-hander Rob Wort (s-3) pitched a scoreless inning to get the save and clinch the 4-3 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Explorers left-hander Cody Forsythe (9-4) received the victory, going seven solid innings with only three runs allowed.
Lincolns starter Matt Shepherd (0-3) was charged with the loss, allowing four runs in eight innings pitched.
