STELLAR PITCHING FROM WINNIPEG GIVES X’S A LOSS

Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers can’t get the victory Sunday afternoon, falling to the Goldeyes with a 6-1 score at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

Winnipeg plated two runs in the first inning, and four in the sixth, giving them the quick 6-0 lead on Sunday afternoon.

Explorers recorded their one and only run in the eighth inning. X’s third baseman Tommy Mendonca singled, and scored on the next at-bat off an RBI double by Bryan Johns to cut the lead down to 6-1, which would be the final score of the game.

Goldeyes left-hander Kevin McGovern (7-3) received the victory, pitching seven scoreless innings with only one hit allowed, while recording eight strikeouts.

Explorers starter Bubba Maxwell (1-1) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs in only one inning pitched.
