Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux City Explorers fall in the series opener to Sioux Falls with a 8-4 score on Tuesday night.
Sioux City recorded their first run in the top of the first. Derrick Robinson led-off with a single, advanced to second with a stolen base, and scored on an RBI single by LeVon Washington.
The Explorers tacked on another in the third inning. Bryan Johns led-off the top half with a single, moved to second on a Derrick Robinson base hit, advanced to third on a sacrifice, and scored off an RBI single by Nate Samson.
In the sixth, Sioux Falls added their first run. Jake Taylor reached first on a hit-by-pitch, advanced all the way to third off a J.C. Linares single and scored on a fielder’s choice.
The Canaries took the lead in the seventh inning and never really looked back, getting the 8-4 victory over the Explorers at The Birdcage.
Explorers starter Bryan Escanio (5-3) had a solid outing on the mound but would finish with the no decision, allowing one run in six innings pitched with nine strikeouts. X’s reliever Dylan Rheault was charged with the loss, giving up four runs in one inning pitched.
Canaries right-hander Ray Hanson (0-6) had a no decision, allowing two runs to score in six innings Sioux Falls reliever Madison Boer (3-7) received the victory, giving up two runs in an inning pitched.
