Winnipeg, CA- The Sioux City Explorers get the 7-5 victory over the Goldeyes in Winnipeg on Friday night.
Sioux City plated the first two runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Tommy Mendonca and LeVon Washington each knocked in a run with RBI singles, giving the X’s the 2-0 lead after five innings of play.
Winnipeg tied it in the seventh inning. The Goldeyes scored two unearned runs in the inning, off an error by the left fielder and a fielder’s choice to tie the game at 2-2.
Explorers racked up five runs in the eighth inning. Newly signed Explorers, Michael Abreu scored a run with an RBI single. Two runs crossed home on an error and a fielder’s choice. Tim Colwell plated two runs with an RBI triple.
The Goldeyes managed to score three runs in the bottom of the eighth, but would fall to the Explorers with a 7-5 score on Friday night.
Explorers starter Jake Kuebler (2-2) finished with a no decision going six scoreless innings with five strikeouts. X’s right-hander PJ Francescon (4-7) received the victory, giving up five runs (three earned) in 1.1 innings pitched. X’s closer Rob Wort (s-5) got the save, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Winnipeg Kevin McGovern (7-3) had a no decision allowing two runs in 6.2 innings pitched. Goldeyes Eric Eadington (3-3) was charged with loss, giving up five runs (four earned) in 0.1 innings.
