Sioux City, IA - The Sioux City Explorers and Lincoln Saltdogs each battled until the very end, but Lincoln would walk away with the 3-2 victory on Tuesday night at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
Lincoln recorded the first run in the second inning. Saltdogs right fielder Jon Smith smashed a solo-homer to right-center, giving Lincoln the early 1-0 lead.
Explorers answered with two runs of their own in the third inning. Back-to-back doubles by Tommy Mendonca and Ino Patron (RBI) scored the first run for Sioux City. Ino Patron later scored from second off an RBI single by Michael Lang.
Lincoln took the lead in the sixth inning. The Saltdogs scored two runs, on two RBI doubles by Austin Gallagher and Cesar Valera, making it 3-2 after six innings of play.
In the bottom of the ninth, Saltdogs closer Evan Reed (s-20) pitched a scoreless ninth to get the save, and clinch the victory for Lincoln.
Saltdogs starter Matt Larkins (7-7) received the victory for Lincoln, allowing only two runs in seven innings pitched.
Explorers starter Reinier Roibal (0-0) finished with a no decision, going 3.2 innings with one run allowed. X’s right-hander Jordan Risse (2-1) was charged with the loss, giving up two runs in 1.2 innings pitched.
