Amarillo, TX- The Sioux City Explorers end the 2016 regular season with a victory, getting the 9-3 win over the AirHogs in Amarillo, Texas.
Explorers scored runs in the third, sixth, seventh and ninth innings to total nine runs on the afternoon. Their nine runs came off twelve hits, three walks and one error.
Texas recorded runs in the first, fifth and seventh inning, totaling three runs on Labor Day. The AirHogs three runs came off nine hits and five walks.
Explorers starter Hasten Freeman (1-0) received the victory, going five solid innings with only two runs allowed while striking out four.
Texas left-hander Derek Callahan (0-5) was charged with the loss, giving up six runs in 6.1 innings pitched.
The Sioux City Explorers have clinched their second consecutive Central Division Championship and will be facing the Wichita Wingnuts in the American Association semi-finals.
Sioux City will be hosting the first two games of the playoffs (September 7-8th) at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. Game three of the semi-finals will be held in Wichita (September 10th), alongside games four and five being played on September 11th and 12th (if necessary-best of five series).
