Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers conclude their memorable 2016 season with a loss to Wichita, advancing the Wingnuts to the American Association Finals. Final score on Sunday night, Wingnuts 10, Explorers 5. The Explorers finished the 2016 season as Central Division Champions for the second consecutive year.
Sioux City recorded the first run of the contest in the second inning. Tim Colwell led-off the inning with a single, moved to second off a base-on-balls, and scored off an RBI single by Ino Patron.
Wichita responded with four runs of their own in the second, taking the lead and never going back. The Wingnuts scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the eighth inning to give them their final score of ten runs.
The Explorers went on to score two more runs in the fourth and sixth innings, totaling five runs on the night. Sioux City ends the 2016 season as the Central Division Champions of the American Association!
Wingnuts starter Tyler Kane finished with a no decision, allowing three runs in 4.1 innings while striking out six on the night. Wingnuts right-hander Mike Devine (1-0) received the victory, pitching a scoreless inning.
Explorers right-hander Reinier Roibal (0-1) was charged with the loss, giving up three runs in three innings pitched on Sunday night.
