Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers extended their winning streak to five games, with the 8-2 victory over Sioux Falls on Saturday night.
Sioux City recorded the first run of the contest in the first inning. Tony Campana led-off with a single, advanced to second on an error by the pitcher, moved to third off a putout, and scored on an RBI single by Nate Samson.
The Canaries tied it in the seventh inning. Ty Morrison led-off with a double, advanced to third on a groundout to second, and scored off a sac-fly-RBI by Michael Falsetti to tie it at 1-1.
Sioux Falls took the lead in the top of the eighth. Blake Schmit reached first with a single, and later scored off an RBI double by Chris Jacobs to take the lead (2-1).
The Explorers exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning to take the lead and give us the final score of 8-2. Some notable at-bats during the eighth inning: Michael Lang knocked in a run with an RBI triple, and Josh Vitters hammered a three-run shot to put the game out of reach (8-2).
Sioux City’s starter Kurt Heyer had a no decision, pitching five scoreless innings with six strikeouts. X’s right-hander Kevin McCanna (2-1) received the victory for the squad.
Canaries starting pitcher Grady Wood finished with a no decision, allowing one run in six innings. Sioux Falls lefty Josh Ferrell (1-1) was charged with the loss, being responsible for five of the seven runs in the eighth inning.
The Sioux City Explorers will wrap up their series with Sioux Falls tomorrow evening (Sunday-May 28th). First pitch-6:05 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
