The Sioux City Explorers allowed the Airhogs to win their seventh game of the season on Saturday evening, falling to Texas in game 1 of the doubleheader at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
Both teams were tied (0-0) heading into the eighth inning of play when the Airhogs got two runs to seal the win. LF Brian Ragira walked with the bases loaded to drive in the first run and DH Jake Taylor followed him with a sacrifice fly to give the Airhogs the 2-0 lead, as LHP James Russell closed the door in the bottom half of the inning for a complete game shutout. Russell struck out four and allowed five hits in his second win of the campaign. CF Trevor Sealey picked up two of his team’s five hits in the victory.
The Sioux City Explorers won the second game of their doubleheader (6-2) against the Airhogs, plating four quick runs in the first two innings. The big play of the day came in the second inning when CF Jayce Ray cranked his third home run of the year.
The Airhogs scored two runs in the fourth inning, making it a 5-2 game, but the Explorers held on for a 6-2 win.
1B John Nogowski (HR-4) also homered in the win and raised his average to .422 on the year. RHP Ryan Flores earned his first win of the year, pitching two outs in the fifth inning and striking out one.
