After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning, the Gary SouthShore RailCats settled down and kept the Sioux City Explorers off the board the rest of the way to earn an 8-2 win in game one of their Tuesday twinbill.
The RailCats took the lead in the bottom of the second on the strength of a solo home run from SS Ryan Fitzgerald and an RBI triple from LF Reggie Wilson. They added five insurance runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Wilson finished the game with a team-high two RBI and RF Colin Willis had game-high two hits.
For the Explorers, four different batters each had one hit including RF Michael Lang and 1B John Nogowski, who both had an RBI.
The Gary SouthShore RailCats completed the sweep of their doubleheader with the Sioux City Explorers with a 4-1 win in game two.
The RailCats took the lead in the bottom of the first inning as DH Frank Martinez singled home LF Reggie Wilson and then scored when C James Alfonso singled later in the inning.
The RailCats added two more in the fourth as Alfonso scored on a single from 2B Andy DeJesus and he scored on a single from 3B Randy Santiesteban.
The Explorers’ lone run came in the top of the seventh when LF Jayce Ray scored after a single from 3B Josh Vitters.
