Sioux City-----In a contest that was delayed one hour and 14 minutes at the start, the Explorers defeated Winnipeg 3-2 at Lewis and Clark Park Thursday.  That delay didn't stop the Explorers as in the second inning with one out Ryan Priddy doubled and Wally Backman, Jr. followed with a RBI single and the X's had a 1-0 lead.  The Explorers added another run in the second on a RBI double by Ray Serrano and stretched that lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning on a RBI single by Kris Sanchez.

In the meantime, Explorers starter Jason Jarvis was taking care of the Goldeyes as the righthander pitched seven innings to pick up his second win of the season.  Chris Bodishbaugh came in the ninth and retired the three batters he faced to pick up a save for the second straight night, his sixth of the year.  The Explorers were outhit 10-9, the the timely hits and good defense along with the pitching of Jarvis was the key to the victory Thursday.  Jarvis was able to get out of a bases loaded situation in the fourth inning when he got Josh Mazzola of Winnipeg to hit into an inning ending double play, the ninth double play turned by the Explorers this week.

With the victory, the Explorers got back to the .500 mark for the first time since May 29th with a record of 14-14.  The Explorers and Winnipeg will meet in the second game of the series Friday at Lewis and Clark Park.  Game time will be 7:05.
