Winnipeg jumps on top early to take series finale

Sioux City-----Winnipeg put the game away early as they defeated the Explorers 9-2 at Lewis and Clark Park Thursday.  The Goldeyes scored two runs in the first inning on a two-run home run by Leonard Davis to lead 2-0.  In the second inning, Winnipeg sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs off losing pitcher Dan Jurik as they jumped out to a 9-0 lead.

The Explorers only two runs came in the bottom of the second when Peter Barrows connected on a two-run home run, his fifth of the season.  After that neither team scored.

Winnipeg had 13 hits and left eight runners on base including the bases loaded in the fifth inning.  The Explorers had nine hits and stranded nine base runners and left the bases loaded in the fourth.

With the win, Winnipeg took the final two games of the three-game series after the Explorers won the first game on Tuesday.

Sioux City will now begin a three-game series Friday at division leading Wichita before returning to Lewis and Clark Park next Tuesday to start a four-game series with Gary SouthShore.

Game time Friday and Saturday at Wichita will be 7:05pm with the Sunday contest set for 3:16PM
