Wichita takes game one of series 7-2

Sioux City-----The Wichita Wingnuts continue to be the hottest team in the American Association as they defeated the Explorers Sunday at Lewis and Clark Park 7-2.  It was the tenth straight win for the first place Wingnuts while the Explorers lost their sixth straight contest.

The Explorers could not overcome two early home runs by Wichita as Jared McDonald hit a three-run home run in the second inning and John Rodriguez connected on a two-run shot in the third.  Both Wichita home runs came off Explorers losing hurler Jason Jarvis.

Sioux City got a solo home run by Sam Judah in the second inning.  It was Judah’s third home run of the season.

The Explorers would add a single run in the third inning, but trailed 5-2 before Wichita scored single runs in the fifth and ninth innings.  The third inning was the best chance for the Explorers to get back in the game, but left the bases loaded.  Four Wichita pitchers struck out 14 Explorer hitters, the most strikeouts against the Explorers this season.

The second game of the three-game series with division leading Wichita will be played Monday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time set for 7:05pm. Reserve your seats now by calling 712-277-9467.
