X'S ADD VETERAN HITTER TO LINE-UP01/27/2014 1:49 PM
SIOUX CITY, IA – In an effort to add some fire power to the middle of the order, X’s field manager Steve Montgomery announced today the signing of left-handed hitting Outfielder/DH Leonard Davis.
Selected by the Montreal Expos in the 8th round of the 2004 MLB Amateur Draft out of Fresno City College in Fresno, CA, Davis went on to play 8 seasons in the Expos/Washington Nationals farm system, while playing at the AA or AAA level for 4 consecutive seasons (2008-2011). The 30-year-old finished the 2011 season in the Independent Can-Am league with the New Jersey Jackals. In 52 games with the Jackals, Davis posted a .317 batting average, while collecting 66 hits, 18 doubles, and 9 homeruns, to go along with 36 RBI’s.
After a one-year hiatus from baseball in 2012 due to the birth of his son, Davis signed with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association for the 2013 season. In only 35 games, Davis collected 35 hits, 7 doubles, 5 homeruns and 18 RBI’s while hitting .269.
In 9 seasons of professional baseball, Davis has collectively hit .271, with 786 hits in 811 career games. He has tallied 157 doubles, 115 home runs, while driving in 404 runs. Outside the 2013 season in which Leonard only played in 35 games, Davis has hit double digit homeruns in each of his last 5 seasons of professional baseball (20hr’s - 2007, 25 hr’s - 2008, 16 hr’s - 2009, 20 hr’s - 2010, 11 hr’s - 2011).
“Our number one goal as we begin to comprise our roster for the upcoming season is to concentrate our efforts on upgrading our roster at as many positions as we can in order to surround our returning players with additional impact players,” comments field manager Steve Montgomery.” Leonard has proven over multiple seasons he has the potential to be a threat every time he steps up to the plate”.
