SIOUX CITY, IA – The Sioux City Explorers have added two returners to their pitching staff today by re-signing left handed starter, Ryan Lucero and right handed reliever, Kyle Kingsley. The 2014 season will mark the second season of professional baseball for both pitchers after each joined the X’s during the course of the 2013 season.


Lucero enjoyed a sensational college career at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX where he compiled a 29-3 record in his 4 years.  Ryan finished his senior year with a 10-1 record in 13 starts, while recording 80 strikeouts to only 13 walks in 82.0 innings of work with a 1.98 ERA.


Lucero made his first appearance for the X’s on July 6th with 3.0 scoreless innings of relief work versus the Fargo Moorhead Redhawks and finished his rookie season with the X’s with a 3-4 record and a 4.29 ERA in 58.2 innings of work. His best performance of the season came on August 16th versus the St. Paul Saints, where he tossed a complete game shutout in a 6-0 victory.


Kingsley played his college baseball at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND.  As a junior for the Bison, Kyle recorded a 7-4 record with a 2.28 ERA and 5 saves.  He collected 33 strikeouts and allowed only 8 walks in 43.1 innings of work.  Kingsley followed up his junior season with an equally impressive senior year.   In his final season, he went 1-4 with a 2.06 ERA in 39.1 innings of work, while collecting 8 saves in 22 appearances out of the bullpen.


After his college career at NDSU, Kyle signed with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks on August 4, 2013 and after appearing in only one game, in which he threw two scoreless innings, he was released and signed by the X’s on August 14th.  Kingsley appeared in 8 games for the X’s and in 16.0 innings of work out of the bullpen, he finished the season with a 3.38 ERA.


The X’s now have 11 players signed for the 2014 season, including seven pitchers and four position players.
