Gary, IN-The Explorers scraped together a two-out rally in the sixth to take the lead for good in a 4-1 win over the RailCats Monday night at U.S. Steel Yard.

Sioux City (37-45) has now won four straight, and is 6-6 against Gary SouthShore this season. The RailCats (43-38) scored the game’s first run in the third. Logan Brumley led off the inning with a single. Following a fly-out, Brumley advanced to second on a groundout to short. Drew Martinez then brought in Brumley with a single to center.

The Explorers finally dented the scoreboard in the sixth. With two outs, Tim Colwell singled to center. Rene Tosoni tied the game with a double that scored Colwell. The next batter, Andres Perez, singled and drove in Tosoni for a 2-1 lead. Sioux City added some insurance in the eighth. It came in the form of a two-out, two-run home run by Peter Barrows (pictured). It was his 12th of the season, and his third in the last four games. Barrows has hit nine home runs since July 14th, and has hit the last four dingers for the X’s.

He gave up just one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Kagen Hopkins took the loss for Gary SouthShore. Hopkins (4-3) lasted six innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and only one walk. Geoff Broussard pitched the ninth for his second save of the season.
