Sioux City Explorers right-hander Ryan Zimmerman pitches another solid night, holding the Railcats scoreless in six innings with the X’s going on to win 4-1. Michael Lang showed why he was chosen as the American Association Player of the Week, having himself a four hit night at the plate alongside a triple.

In the top half of the third, the X’s got on the board first. Explorers left fielder Tim Colwell reached base off a one out walk, advanced to second on a Matty Johnson base hit, and then scored off an RBI single by Michael Lang scoring Colwell from third and giving Sioux City the early lead.

Three innings later the X’s extended the lead 2-0, plating one more. X’s shortstop Noah Perio Jr led-off the inning with a single, advanced all the way to third on a Ryan Court base hit, and then crossed home plate off a 6-4-3 double play. After six innings, the Explorers led 2-0 over the Railcats.

Sioux City kept the runs coming, plating another in the eighth and one more in the ninth to give them four total Monday night. In the eighth, a Ryan Court RBI single scored Lang from second for the third run, and then a triple by Michael Lang scored Colwell from first and made it 4-0 after eight and a half innings.

Gary SouthShore managed to score one run in the ninth on a Drew Martinez RBI single, but would wind up losing to Sioux City 4-1 at U.S. Steel Yard. Ryan Zimmerman (7-1) got the win pitching six scoreless innings, allowing three hits, four walks with three strikeouts. Railcats starter Kevin Osaki (0-2) was charged the loss giving up a run in 2.1 innings pitched.

American Association Player of the Week Michael Lang had the hot-bat for the Explorers. The right-handed hitter had four hits in five at-bats, two RBIs, a triple and a run scored. Noah Perio Jr also had a good night at the plate going 3 for 5 and a run.
