XS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO FIVE GAMES WITH 7-2 WIN OVER RAILCATS07/24/2015 9:43 PM
Explorers shortstop Noah Perio Jr extends his hitting streak to ten games, Eric Wordekemper gets his fourth win of the season, and the Explorers make it five wins in a row in the 7-2 win over the Railcats at U.S. Steel Yard.
Sioux City scored right away plating a run in the first. X’s lead-off man Matty Johnson led-off the game with a double, advanced to third with a stolen base, and scored on a Michael Lang ground ball hit to the first baseman. Explorers went on to score three more runs in the second, to quickly make it 4-0 after two innings.
Gary SouthShore put up their first and final runs of the game in the third inning. Railcats second baseman J.D. Pulfer doubled with a man on to plate their first run of the night. Pulfer later scored from third on an error by the shortstop to cut the lead to two runs.
In the sixth, Matt Koch made it five runs for Sioux City with a lead-off solo-shot, his third of the year, to extend the lead 5-2. The Explorers scored a run in the seventh off a wild pitch to make it six runs on the night.
The Explorers plated one more run in the ninth, off an RBI double by Rene Tosoni to give them seven runs, which would be the final run of the game. Final score Explorers 7, Railcats 3.
X’s starting pitcher Eric Wordekemper (4-2) got the win with a string outing. The right-hander went six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Railcats starter Andy Roberts (1-6) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs in six innings. Noah Perio Jr was the hot hitter for Sioux City, extending his hitting streak to ten games and going 3 for 4 with a double and a triple. Michael Lang and Brock Kjeldgaard both had two hit nights at the plate, and Matt Koch had a solo home run, alongside two runs and two RBIs.
