Gary SouthShore plated their first run in the second, off of similar circumstances. Jose Sermano tripled with one out to put him in scoring position, and then Roger Bernal hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score a tagging Sermano from third base.

In the third inning, Brock Kjeldgaard and Noah Perio both reached base on balls, and then a Ryan Court hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with two outs. On the next at-bat X’s third baseman Tommy Mendonca ripped a two-run base hit that scored Kjeldgaard on Perio from first and third to extend their lead 4-1.

The Railcats went on to tie it with runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Brandon Thomas knocked in two, with a triple in the gap. In the fifth, Jose Sermano pelted a double to left field scoring a runner from second base.

Gary SouthShore would go on to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth off a fielders choice. Final score, Railcats 5, Explorers 4. Former Sioux City Explorer Chris Bodishbaugh (1-0) received the win going the final two innings allowing no runs, one hit, one walk and one strikeout.

Explorers starter Jeff Marquez (6-5) got the no decision on the night, going five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, three walks with three strikeouts. Rob Wort (4-3) was charged with loss allowing the game winning run to score in the ninth.
