X'S SHOOT DOWN PHEASANTS08/14/2011 11:19 PM
![]() By winning, the Explorers took two out of three in the weekend series with the Pheasants. Sioux Falls took an early 3-0 lead over the Explorers after four innings, but the Explorers tied the game in the fifth, scoring one run on a RBI double by Brett Flowers and then Ryan Priddy hit a two-run home run to tie the contest at 3-3. It was Priddy's sixth home run of the season. In the sixth inning, Dustin Jones started the inning with a bunt single and Wally Backman, Jr. followed with a single to extend his hitting streak to 13 games, sending Jones to third with nobody out. On a safety squeeze bunt, Derek Schermerhorn brought Jones home to give the Explorers a 4-3 lead. The Explorers added an insurance run in the ninth when Brett Flowers' sacrifice fly scored Tyler Goodro, who had walked earlier in the inning. Righthander David Trahan struggled early with his control, but pitched eight innings and allowed only one hit after the fourth inning to record his third win in four decisions for the Explorers. Eddy Delacruz pitched the ninth to pick up his ninth save of the season. With the win and a loss by St. Paul Sunday, the Explorers are only three games behind the Saints in the wild card race and still trail Gary Southshore in the Central Division of the American Association. The Explorers will have a day off Monday before heading to Fargo to start a three-game series with the RedHawks on Tuesday. After that, the Explorers will return home on Friday for a three-game weekend series with Sioux Falls at Lewis and Clark Park.
