Sioux City-----On a wild fourth of July, Gary SouthShore outsluged the Explorers 14-9 to snap a seven-game losing streak. With fireworks after the game, it was the second largest crowd (2,865) of the season at Lewis and Clark Park.
It was a contest that saw a total of 29 hits along with the 23 runs scored between the two teams. Early in the contest, it was a game that went back and forth until the fourth inning when Sean Henry hit a three-run home run off losing pitcher Nick Schumacher that gave the RailCats the lead for good. The Explorers tried to erase that lead, but could not catch up. With the Explorers trailing 11-9 going into the ninth inning, Gary SouthShore put the icing on the cake when they scored three runs off relief pitcher Eddie Delacruz that sealed the victory. Ray Serrano led the Explorers in hitting with four hits while Kris Sanches drove in three runs, but it wasn't enough to overcome the RailCats. The third game of the series will be played Thursday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time set for 7:05.
