The Sioux City Explorers sail to their eighth straight win with 8-2 victory. Explorers right-hander Ryan Zimmerman had another dominant performance on the mound allowing only one run in seven innings alongside nine strikeouts.
In the top half of the second, Fargo-Moorhead placed the first run of the game. RedHawks right-fielder Joe Dunigan singled to start the inning, moved to second off a Luke Bailey base-hit, third on a groundout and scored off a Ryan Pineda RBI single to give them the early 1-0 lead.
Fargo-Moorhead’s lead didn’t last very long with Sioux City knocking in two in the bottom of the second. X’s second baseman doubled with one out and scored off a base-knock by Matt Koch to tie it 1-1. Koch later scored off a bases-loaded walked batter to trot him home from third base giving the Explorers the lead 2-1.
In the third, the Explorers made it five runs total for their squad having a lead-off solo-shot by Brock Kjeldgaard and a two-run dinger by Matt Koch extending the lead by four runs.
Explorers plated three more runs in the fifth, Ryan Court singled to score a runner, Tommy Mendonca knocked in court with an base-knock, and Mendonca scored off a fielders choice to make it 8-1 after five innings of play.
In the eighth, a Chad Bozingo RBI single cut the Explorers lead to 8-2 which would go on to be the final score of the game. Explorers improve their win streak to eight straight wins with the victory.
Explorers starter Ryan Zimmerman (10-2) received his tenth win of the season going seven solid innings with only one run allowed and nine strikeouts. RedHawks left-hander Tyler Alexander (1-5) was charged with the loss giving up eight runs (seven earned) in five innings.
Sioux City had five hitters finish with double-digit hits, with Matt Koch having the best night at the plate going 3 for 4 with two runs, a homer and three RBIs. Brock Kjeldgaard, Noah Perio, Ryan Court and Tommy Mendonca had two hits on the contest.
