The Sioux City Explorers set their franchise record in wins on a season, recording their fifty-third win with the 2-1 victory over Sioux Falls. They also extended their win streak to eleven games with the win.
Sioux City put the first run on the board in the first inning. X’s centerfielder Matty Johnson led-off with a single, advanced all the way to third on an error by the third baseman and scored off a 4-6-3 double play hit by Noah Perio to give them the early 1-0 lead.
In the sixth, Brock Kjeldgard reached base on balls with one out, moved to third on a Ryan Court double and scored off a wild pitch to plate the second run of the game. Sioux Falls went on to score in the sixth as well, off a Brian Humphries sac-fly RBI to cut the lead to one run after six innings.
In the bottom of the ninth inning Canaries designated hitter singled to start the inning, but wound up stranded at first base with Jose Flores closing it out to get his seventeenth save of the season. Explorers break the franchise record for wins in a season with the 2-1 victory over Sioux Falls to get their 53rd win of the season.
X’s starter Ryan Strufing (1-0) received his first win as an Explorers going 5.2 innings with only one run allowed while recording four strikeouts. Canaries right-hander Stephen Bougher (3-4) was charged with the loss letting two runs cross on five hits and two walks.
X’s designated hitter Brock Kjeldgaard had an RBI and run scored for Sioux City. Second baseman Ryan Court doubled in the contest, while Tim Colwell went 1 for 4 with two stolen bases.
