FOUR RUN EIGHTH INNING CARRIES XS TO VICTORY08/14/2015 8:58 PM
The Sioux City Explorers trailed 3-1 heading into the eighth inning but kept fighting, plating four big runs in the eighth, to go on to win 5-3. X’s shortstop Noah Perio Jr homered and had three clutch RBIs in the contest.
Explorers put up the first run with a solo-shot hit by Noah Perio Jr in the bottom half of the first inning.
Kansas City went on to plate their first runs in the third and fourth innings. In the third, Starlin Rodriguez knocked in a run with an RBI triple to tie it 1-1. In the fourth inning the T-Bones tacked on one more with a Jake Blackwood solo home run to take the lead 2-1.
Later in the game, the T-Bones tacked on another to extend their lead 3-1, but the Explorers would bounce back in the eighth inning with a scoring streak. X’s shortstop Noah Perio Jr came through in the clutch knocking in two big runs with a base-hit-single to tie it 3-3. The Explorers scored two more in the inning with two RBI singles to take an unexpected 5-3 lead.
In the ninth inning, X’s right-hander Rob Wort (s-2) pitched in relief for Sioux City, closing it out to clinch the win 5-3 at Lewis and Clark Park. Explorers starter John Straka (9-1) got a no decision on the day allowing two runs in seven innings pitched. Reliever David Herndon (1-1) received the win with a run allowed in an inning pitched.
T-Bones starting right-hander Drew Gay (1-1) finished with a no decision with only one run allowed in seven solid innings. T-Bones relief pitcher Aaron Baker (3-1) was charged with the loss giving up four runs in the eighth inning.
Sioux City had two finish with double-digit hits, Matty Johnson went 2 for 4 with a run scored. X’s shortstop Noah Perio Jr took home the “Player of the Game” honors going 2 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. |
