![]() Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers rally comes up short, falling to the Kansas City T-Bones 12-8 Sunday Afternoon. Despite the loss, the X’s get the series victory, winning two out of three over Kansas City. Explorers starting pitcher Cody Forsythe struggled early on, allowing Kansas City to score four quick runs in the first inning. Three base-on-balls, two RBI doubles and a hit-by-pitch were responsible for the four earned runs in the inning. In the bottom of the third, Sioux City cut the T-Bones lead in half. X’s catcher Ralph Henriquez reached base with a single to start the inning. With Henriquez at first and no outs, Explorers left-fielder Derrick Robinson cranked his first home run of the year to slice the deficit by two runs. Each team added a run in the fourth inning. T-Bones left-fielder Christian Torres popped a sacrifice-fly to center field, scoring the tagging Tierney from third base. X’s plated a run of their own in the bottom half off a Derrick Robinson RBI double. Kansas City extended their lead to four runs with two solo-homers in the fifth and sixth innings. T-Bones centerfielder Tyler Massey led-off the fifth with a solo homerun, and in the sixth inning, KC’s second baseman Brett Wiley homered, extending their lead to 7-3. The T-Bones put the game out of reach in the seventh inning, putting up three more runs to give them double-digit runs scored on the contest. After six and a half innings, Kansas City 10, Explorers 3. Explorers battled, plating five more runs in the game. X’s scored three runs in the seventh and two in the ninth, but would go on to fall to the T-Bones on Sunday afternoon. Final score, Kansas City 12, Explorers 8 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. T-Bones starting pitcher Johnny Shuttlesworth (2-1) received the win for Kansas City, allowing three runs, on ten hits while striking out four in five innings pitched. X’s right-hander Cody Forsythe (1-2) was charged with the loss, giving up six runs in four innings. The Sioux City Explorers and Winnipeg Goldeyes will start a three game series on Monday (June 6th) at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
