XS WRAP UP HOME-STAND WITH A BANG06/08/2016 2:54 PM
Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers finish the home stand with a bang, shutting out Winnipeg with a 9-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. The Explorers scored early and often in Wednesday’s afternoon contest vs Winnipeg, plating five quick runs in the first inning. X’s shortstop Nate Samson knocked in the first two runs with an RBI single. The next two runs in the contest came off of three back-to-back steals by Noah Perio and Nate Samson. Noah Perio stole home while Samson was caught in a rundown at first and second, then Samson stole second and third, putting him in position to score on a Jarek Cunningham RBI single. Cunningham later scored the fifth run of the inning, on an error by the shortstop. Sioux City extended their lead by two more runs in the third and fourth innings. Explorers second baseman Jarek Cunningham hit a solo-shot in the bottom of the third, giving them the 6-0 lead over the Goldeyes. In the fourth, Derrick Robinson scored from third base on an RBI-groundout to second base. The Explorers went on to score two more runs in the game, giving them nine runs total to get the 9-0 victory over Winnipeg at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. X’s right-hander Graham Johnson (3-0) received the victory for Sioux City, going six solid innings with no runs allowed. Goldeyes starter Kyle Anderson (3-1) was charged with the loss for Winnipeg, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eleven hits and one walk in only four innings pitched. The Sioux City Explorers will enjoy an off-day tomorrow, before starting a three game series vs the Gary Southshore Railcats on the road (June 10-12th).
