EXPLORERS FALL TO ST. PAUL 6-2 ON WEDNESDAY06/21/2016 9:17 PM
Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers weren’t able to keep the momentum rolling from the night before, scoring only two runs, Tuesday while falling to St. Paul 6-2 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. St. Paul scored the first run of the contest in the third inning. Saints catcher Aaron Gretz worked up a lead-off walk, advanced to second on a groundout, and scored with an RBI single by Breland Almadova. The Saints got in a rhythm after their run in the third, adding four more runs an inning later. St. Paul recorded two of the runs with RBI singles, one run with a bases-loaded walk and another on a sacrifice. Sioux City was able to answer with a couple runs of their own in the bottom half. X’s second baseman Noah Perio led-off with a base-hit-single, advanced all the way to third on a Nate Samson double, and scored on a 5-3 groundout by Tommy Mendonca. X’s own Nate Samson went on to score from third, on a wild pitch. St. Paul went on to score one more run in the contest, tacking on the final run with a fielder’s choice, which scored the runner at third base. Final score, St. Paul 6, Explorers 2 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. The Saints starting pitcher, Robert Coe (4-1) received the win on the night, allowing only two runs in seven innings pitched. X’s right-hander Ryan Zimmerman (2-4) was charged with the loss, giving up six runs on ten hits in six innings.
