![]() LANGS THREE RUN DOUBLE HELPS SECURE XS VICTORY Sioux City, IA- The well-rested Sioux City Explorers looked like their old selves again, plating six runs on the night and earning the 6-4 victory over the Gary Southshore Railcats. Gary Southshore recorded the first two runs early to start the contest. With runners at second and third, Frank Martinez singled to score both runners, giving the Railcats the early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Sioux City added their first runs and took the lead in the third inning. With the bases loaded, X’s right fielder Michael Lang doubled, scoring all three to take the lead. Land later scored the fourth run of the inning on an RBI single by Nate Samson. Explorers tacked on two more in the sixth. The fifth run for the X’s came off an error by the second baseman, scoring the runner at third base. X’s centerfielder Matty Johnson knocked in another with an RBI single, extending the Explorers lead to 6-2. The Railcats went on to score two more runs in the eighth inning, but would not be able to overcome the deficit in Sioux City. Explorers get the 6-4 victory over Gary Southshore in nine innings at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. Explorers starter Bryan Escanio (2-1) received the victory for Sioux City, going seven solid innings, with three runs allowed while striking out six. X’s right-hander Rob Wort (s-1) got the save, going 1.1 innings with two strikeouts. Wort’s earned run average now sits at an impressive 0.96 in eleven games this season. Railcats starting pitcher Karl Triana (2-4) was charged with the loss, allowing four runs in five innings pitched. The Sioux City Explorers and Gary Southshore Railcats will wrap up their three game series on Sunday (July 3rd) at 7:00.
