Winnipeg, CA- The Sioux City Explorers end their three game series in Winnipeg with a loss, falling to the Goldeyes with a 6-4 score at Shaw Park. The X’s won game one of the three game series vs Winnipeg, losing the final two.
The Goldeyes jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the first two innings. Josh Romanski’s sac-fly-RBI scored the first run for Winnipeg. In the second inning, Reggie Abercrombie smashed his second homer of the series, extending the lead by two runs.
Sioux City tied the game on one swing of the bat in the sixth. With runners at second and third and two outs, Ralph Henriquez ripped a double to center field, racking up two runs and tying the game at 2-2.
Winnipeg answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Goldeyes veteran Reggie Abercrombie homered again on the night (third of the series), helping Winnipeg retake the 3-2 lead.
In the seventh, Winnipeg jumped ahead by four runs by scoring three in the bottom half. Josh Romanski knocked in the first run with an RBI single. Romanski crossed home on the next at-bat off a two-run homer by Willie Cabrera, giving them six runs on the night.
The Explorers managed to record two more runs in the contest, plating a run in the eighth and ninth innings, but would fall to the Winnipeg Goldeyes with a 6-4 score, ending the three game series.
Goldeyes right-hander Edwin Carl (4-5) received the victory for Winnipeg, allowing only two runs in 6.1 innings pitched. Robert Tasin (s-2) got the save on the night, letting an unearned run score but holding the victory intact.
Explorers starter Cody Forsythe (4-3) had another quality start on the mound but would finish with a no decision, allowing only two runs to score in 5.1 innings pitched. X’s reliever PJ Francescon (0-2) was charged with the loss, giving up four runs in only 1.2 innings of relief.
The Sioux City Explorers will head back home to start a three game series with the Texas AirHogs (July 15-17th) at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
